DETROIT — A Canadian TV station, CKLW-TV, which also serves Detroit, has kicked-off an hour daily variety show for teenagers called ‘Swingin’ Summertime.’ Host of the show, which features both live and taped segments, is Robin Seymour.
Among the artists appearing on the first show were the Rolling Stones, Gene Pitney, Dwayne Hickman, Paul Anka, Deborah Walley and Harry Belafonte. The show is telecast live before a teen audience at the CKLW television studios in Windsor, Ontario. END

In 1947, and after a stint with the Arm Forces Radio Network near the end of WWII, Robin Seymour began an 18-year broadcasting career with WKMH in Dearborn. Today we are presenting his show’s opening theme. This one from 1956 – BOBBIN’ WITH THE ROBIN” – by the Four Lads (and accompanied by the Percy Faith Orchestra). The theme became his signature show-opener during the latter-1950s and was heard daily at the start of his show, 6:00 in the morning on Radio 1310.
Today, we remember this legend. Robin Seymour passed away, on this day, April 17, 2020. He was 94.

Here is the story of a Detroit radio and television pioneer, the great Robin Seymour. . . from his earliest days on WKMH radio, later in 1963 staying with the “new” WKNR Keener 13, to the host of “Teen Town” and “Swingin’ Time,” on CKLW-TV 9. Both of Seymour’s TV broadcasts became two of the original TV dance shows geared for teens — showcasing music legends of the day — beaming out of Windsor, Ontario into Detroit homes in the 1960s.
If you are a Baby Boomer and want to relive those wonderful days of the ’50’s and ’60’s this story is for you. It is complete with pictures of memorable Motown superstars. It is a most enjoyable read. Writer Carolyn Rosenthal masterfully captures Robin’s fascinating story from his earliest years in the service to his history making radio and television career.
You will find as well great Robin Seymour memories shared by current and former Detroit radio broadcasting luminaries —
