NEWS THROUGH APRIL —  First week (Jan. 1) as No. 1 single on Billboard and Cashbox charts in the United States of Patti Page hit song “Tennessee Waltz”. Nuclear testing (Jan. 27) at the Nevada Test Site begins with a 1-kiloton bomb dropped on Frenchman Flat, northwest of Las Vegas. The United Nations General Assembly (Feb. 1) declares China as an aggressor in the Korean War in UN General Assembly Resolution 498.  The Twenty-second Amendment to the United States Constitution, limiting Presidents to two terms, is ratified, February 22.

The first NBA All-Star Game (Mar. 22) of basketball is played in the Boston Gardens. Julius and Ethel Rosenberg are convicted of conspiracy to commit espionage, Mar. 29. On April 5 they are sentenced to receive the death penalty. U.S. President Harry S. Truman relieves General Douglas MacArthur of his Far Eastern commands, April 11. The National Olympic Committee of the Soviet Union is formed, April 21.

On WWJ (950) “Musicana” and “Your Hit Parade”. On WXYZ (1270) “Pan American Music” and “Dancin’ Party”. On CKLW (800) “Beat Lombardoland” and “Barn Dance.” On WJBK (1490) “Jack The Bellboy” and “Music All Night”.  And on WKMH (1310) “Musical Clock” and “Bobbin’ With Robbin'”.
