NEW! ROBIN STONE WKNR aircheck date Sunday, February 27, 1972
*****
* THE JIM FELICIANO COLLECTION *
A MCRFB SIDE NOTE: (?)
___
We took note WKNR never did publish an image of Robin Stone, or that of any other jocks the station had on staff or newly hired, after August 9, 1971.
Looking back, WKNR jocks photos were generally found having been printed on most of Keener music guides (front or back) throughout the years from 1963 and up to the very date noted above.
The very last DJ photo the station published was that of Pat St. John, and his photo was printed on the (bottom) front cover of the August 9, 1971 music guide.
Every weekly music guide issued thereafter (beginning August 16, 1971) instead contained the station’s brand new, heavily promoted station disclaimer which read:” Keener 13 Detroit’s Only Rock ‘n’ Roll Station” and the disclaimer was found printed on every issue through December 13, 1971.
After that issue, “WKNR Rock ‘n’ Roll” was subtly the new disclaimer on the remaining WKNR guides up until thelast issue the station printed in March 1972.
Therefore, the question mark remains. No photo of Robin Stone.
WKNR PRESENTS! The 5th Dimension Saturday, March 11, 1972
The concert is one of the longest live performances by the Doors. Among the 25 songs played the group played eight bluesstandards such as“Back Door Man”, Junior Parker‘s “Mystery Train” and “Crossroads” byRobert Johnson. The band were joined byLovin’ Spoonful‘sJohn Sebastianon guitar and harmonica on the L.A. Woman track “Been Down So Long,” “Love Hides”,Chuck Berry‘s “Carol”,Muddy Waters‘ “Close to You,” andSlim Harpo‘s “I’m a King Bee.” The concert was originally scheduled to end before midnight but ran on until one in the morning. This late end, against union rules, saw the band banned from the Cobo Arena.
Live in Detroit was mixed and mastered by long-time Doors’ sound engineer/producer Bruce Botnick. He had recorded several shows from the Doors’ 1970 Roadhouse Blues Tour on multi-track tape for the Absolutely Live album released in July 1970.
The concert took place as the band were recording their last studio album,L.A. Woman.
